Swiss naturalisation: how knowledge is checked
In Switzerland there is no single national citizenship exam. The federal law sets the minimum conditions (for example 10 years of residence and a C permit), and then cantons and municipalities decide how they check your integration and knowledge: a written test, an interview, or both.
Ask your municipality which topics and which language they use. See the State Secretariat for Migration.
Common topics
- Political system: cantons, Federal Council, direct democracy
- History and national symbols
- Geography and neighbours
- Daily life: insurance, schools, rights and duties
